Faber’s demolition of Michael McDonald solidified a 2013 record of 4-0 with three of those victories coming by way of strangulation. The dominant performance over McDonald will likely pit Faber in a championship bout against the winner of Dominic Cruz vs. Renan Barao. Yes, both outcomes are rematches, and yes, Faber is 0-5 in his last five title fights, but honestly, I couldn’t care less.
Faber has mounted the type of comeback that puts any talks of marketability to bed. By pairing a drop in weight with the addition of Duane “Bang” Ludwig, the “California Kid” has been able to flourish at a stage where many decline. The former champ is 34, but he’s still getting better.
While the window on Faber’s career is objectively closing, there’s no time like the present. It’s hard to say whether or not the “California Kid” can reverse his recent title skid, but the next time he steps into the cage, I will not be betting against him.
