Consider it a date. UFC middleweight Michael Bisping (23-4 MMA 13-4 UFC) will meet fellow middleweight contender Vitor Belfort (21-10 MMA 10-6 UFC) in Brazil on January 19, 2013. A bout that may decide as to who will get the opportunity to face Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva. The Brazil card will be aired on the FX or Fuel channels.
Bisping is 9-3 since his move to middleweight and is currently 5-1 in his last 6 fights, only dropping a questionable unanimous decision loss to the “Gangster from West Lin”, Chael Sonnen. In regards to the fight with Sonnen, many analysts, including Sonnen himself, felt that Bisping won the fight. On the flip side of things, Bisping bounced back in September at UFC 152 with a dominant unanimous decision victory over dangerous striker and Jackson MMA product, Brian Stann.
Belfort has been one of the most versatile fighters in UFC history. He’s been known to be able to meet opponents at middleweight or light heavyweight. Belfort’s last stint, also at UFC 152 in September, was in a light heavyweight title bout with Jon Jones. Although Belfort was submitted, he could walk away with a moral victory doing more damage to the young champ with an armbar, than most has been able to inflict in Jones’s entire career. Belfort hasn’t found the most success in the UFC with a 10-6 UFC record, 3-2 in his last 5, and not having been able to legitimately put the title around his waste his entire career. That’s not to say Belfort doesn’t put on a show.
