With all the talk of Glover Teixeira, it’s hard for even the most casual fan to not know who this MMA superstar is at this point. Most casual fans are not only riding the Teixeira hype train, they are claiming to be driving the band wagon.Teixeira has been extremely dominate, boasting a 22-2 record with his last loss to Ed Herman back in 2005. Visa issues held Teixeira from competing in the United States for many years but make no mistake about it, Teixeira is here now and it seems he is here to stay.
In Belo Horizonte, Brazil, from the Mineirinho Arena, the UFC Fight Night 28 on FOX Sports 1 was headlined by Teixeira vs. Bader to determine the clear #1 contender spot in the UFC’s light heavy weight division. This card was the 3rd event for the UFC in the last 8 days. This card was viewed as the weakest card based strictly by the names on the card, being composed of mostly local Brazilian fighters; however, the last three fights on the card exceeded fans expectations with each fight ending in the first round.
The main event between Teixeira and Bader started off with a bang and completely delivered an exciting fight, each guy swinging for the fences early and Bader seeming to be get the better end of things in the standup department; however, late in the first, Bader gets Teixeira against the fence and starts swinging wildly. Teixeira covers and waits for the perfect counter and lands the punch that flattens Bader, Teixeira rushes in and finishes him off having the referee call a stop to the bout.
Many people now want to see Teixeira face the current UFC light heavy weight champion Jon Jones. Jones is arguably the greatest UFC light heavy weight competitor in the history of the sport. Jones is 6’4 with a reach of 85in: Jones uses his large stature to keep opponents at bay with pinpoint accurate striking that he uses to dictate the fight. Jones also possesses some of the best wrestling in the UFC today that he most recently showed in his bout against Chael Sonnen.
With the pure size, talent, and athleticism, it leaves many people to believe Jones is unbeatable in the UFC light heavy weight division, especially since 5 of his victories are over former UFC champions. This leaves the question who can beat Jon Jones? Glover Teixeira is a name that has been thrown in the hat by many fans. For now we just have to sit and wait as Jones is scheduled to face Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165.
